Mishka Tower: Aspiring Veterinarian Exploring Opportunities at UW–Madison

The Department of Animal and Dairy Sciences takes great pride in recognizing the outstanding students in our program, and we are excited to showcase some of our amazing freshmen. Throughout the rest of the school year, we will feature these remarkable individuals through our “Student Spotlights” articles and social media posts.

This week we are excited to feature Mishka Tower, a freshman Animal and Veterinary Biosciences student from Amherst, New Hampshire. Drawn to the university for its diverse community, urban setting, and outstanding programs, Mishka has quickly become involved in organizations like Badger Dairy Club, the Pre-Veterinary Association, and the Association of Women in Agriculture. With hands-on learning experiences such as the Animal Science 102 lab, she is building a strong foundation for a future in veterinary medicine. Aspiring to become a mixed animal practice veterinarian, she is making the most of campus life while exploring all that Madison has to offer.

Why did you choose to attend UWMadison?

I chose UW-Madison because I wanted to explore somewhere new, try living in a more urban area, and to go to place where I can build relationships with many different people and join multiple different communities.

What clubs/organizations/activities are you involved with or plan to be involved with?

I am in Badger Dairy Club, the Pre-Veterinary Association, and Association of Women in Agriculture.

Do you have an exciting class that you are taking/have taken and why?

My most exciting class so far has been Animal Science 102 lab. I enjoyed this lab because it allowed me to dive right into the anatomy of animals and the complexity of the agricultural system. The ability to have professors work side by side with you and teach you the basics of animal handling and understanding anatomy was incredible.

What are you looking forward to most about being a student at UW-Madison/the city of Madison/or college in general?

The city of Madison is so diverse in the different activities you can do, the people you can meet, and even the landscape as it has both the more urban city along with the trails along the lake. Even only being here for a semester, I have been able to go downtown with friends, try so many different types of food, walk along the lake, and be immersed in Wisconsin culture. I can’t wait to continue being in this city and learning more about Madison and myself.
