Continuing the Department of Animal and Dairy Sciences “Student Spotlights”, we will be highlighting one of our rising sophomore Animal & Veterinary Biosciences students!
This week we will get to know more about Ila Keyzer. In this Q&A, Ila, a sophomore Animal & Veterinary Biosciences student from Genoa City, Wisconsin, reflects on her experiences at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and how they are helping her on her path to becoming a veterinarian. Ila’s advice for students is to give yourself grace and make sure to cherish the moments and memories as time flies by while in college. Whether you’re a prospective student or simply curious about campus life, Ila’s dedication to her education, diverse involvement in student organizations, and love of UW–Madison highlight how to make the most of your college experience and prepare for future success.
Why did you choose to attend UW–Madison?
I chose UW-Madison because of their reputable Animal & Dairy Sciences department. It has been my goal ever since I was little to go to Madison and become a veterinarian. That goal has stuck with me and here I am!
What clubs/organizations/activities are you involved with?
I am in the Pre-Veterinary Association, Women in Chess, WISE Learning Community, and work at the Dairy Cattle Center on campus.
What is your favorite class that you have taken in the department and why?
Animal Science 101 because it is what introduced me to the idea of large animal medicine.
What are your future career plans?
Large Animal Veterinarian
What advice do you have for incoming students?
Have grace with yourself during the first semester, things are NOT going to be exactly how you expected them to be and that is okay! Take everything in because it goes by so fast.
What is your favorite spot on campus?
The library in the Animal Sciences building (it is usually quiet)!
What is your favorite Babcock ice cream flavor?
Orange Custard Chocolate Chip
