Meet our 2015 Dairy Shrine Scholarship Award Recipients!

Name: Cassie Endres

Award: STUDENT RECOGNITION PROGRAM – This award recognizes and rewards graduating university or four-year college seniors who are planning a career related to the dairy industry or production agriculture and who have demonstrated leadership skills, activities, academic ability and interest in the dairy industry.

Home Farm or On-Farm Dairy Experience: My home farm is Endres Berryridge Farms LLC, which is home to 500 registered Holsteins. My main responsibilities on the farm include caring for show heifers, assisting with record-keeping, as well as co-managing the Endres Berryridge Farms LLC Facebook page.

What are your future career goals?

Currently, I am working as a Marketing Associate at Filament Marketing in Madison. Also, I am very involved with the dairy youth in Dane County, assisting with coaching the dairy bowl and dairy judging teams.

What does this award mean to you?

I am incredibly honored that the National Dairy Shire recognized me as one of the top senior dairy students in the nation. I can’t imagine a better way to end my college career than to be recognized by such a well-respected organization in the dairy industry.

Is there anyone you would like to thank?

I would like to thank my family for giving me the opportunity to be involved in the dairy industry and helping me to develop a passion for dairy cattle. They have been nothing but supportive throughout my college career and have always pushed me to excel in everything I do.

 

Name: Bethany Dado

Award: KILDEE UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP – The top 25 participants in a National 4-H or FFA Dairy Judging Contest and of current junior or senior status.

Award: JUNIOR MERIT SCHOLARSHIP – For college juniors based on leadership, activities, academic ability and interest in the dairy industry.

Home Farm or On-Farm Dairy Experience: 

I’m from a 450 registered Holstein cow dairy located in northwest Wisconsin. Our family also farms 1200 acres. My main responsibilities on the farm are, calf care, milking, registration, and managing our social media

What are your future career goals?

I am planning on attending graduate school next year to study Dairy Physiology or Genetics at a well-known agricultural university. After receiving my degree, I hope to start a career in dairy research, potentially becoming a professor. I hope to start a family and raise them with the same values I have learned growing up on a dairy farm.

What does this award mean to you?

The support of the National Dairy Shrine has astounded me over the past four years. I am incredibly grateful for the academic support they have provided me during my time at UW-Madison. I am especially honored to earn the Kildee Undergraduate scholarship because I have treasured my dairy judging experiences through 4-H, FFA, and college.

Is there anyone you would like to thank?

I would like to thank the National Dairy Shrine for providing outstanding opportunities to dairy youth across the county. I would also like to thank my family, especially my parents and grandparents, for shaping me into the passionate dairywoman I am today.

Award: SOPHOMORE MERIT SCHOLARSHIP – Scholarships for college sophomores based on leadership, activities, academic ability and interest in the dairy industry.

Home Farm or On-Farm Dairy Experience: My home farm is Endres Berryridge Farms LLC, where we milk 500 Registered Holsteins and farm 1,000 acres. My main responsibilities include managing fresh cows and newborn calves, managing show heifers during the summer, and various organizational duties like registering calves and entering data into Dairy Comp 305.

What are your future career goals?

I am a FAVeMedS scholar meaning that next fall I will begin veterinary school, in what would normally be my senior year. Candidates are admitted into the FAVeMedS program after their freshman year if they demonstrate motivation towards a career in food animal veterinary medicine. I am currently working on my academic, research, and mentored clinical experiences to successfully complete the program. My goal is to become a large animal veterinarian specializing in advanced reproduction (embryo transfer and in vitro fertilization).

What does this award mean to you?

I am incredibly grateful to be selected to receive this scholarship and I am honored to be recognized by an organization that is so influential in the dairy industry.

Is there anyone you would like to thank?

I would like to thank my parents for igniting my passion for the dairy industry, instilling in me a strong work ethic, and always being my biggest supporters in whatever I do.

 

Name: Sydney Endres

Award: EDUCATION & COMMUNICATION SCHOLARSHIP – Scholarships are based on leadership, experience, academic ability and interests in education or communications.

Hometown: Lodi, WI
Parent Names: David Endres and late Patty Endres 

 

 

 

Home Farm or On-Farm Dairy Experience: At home we milk around 700 Jerseys and farm 1200 acres. I also am a student coordinator at the UW Dairy Cattle Center on campus, where I help manage around 80 cows and 10 employees.

Major(s): Dairy Science and Life Sciences Communication

What are your future career goals?

Eventually I want to return to my home farm and become involved in agritourism by opening up a learning center by the interstate near my home and offering farm tours to those who are interested. After that, I would like to process our farm’s milk into cheese and ice cream so people can see the entire process of making dairy products start to finish.

What does this award mean to you?

The Education and Communication scholarship is the most personally applicable scholarship I have ever filled out. Knowing the industry supports my goals by receiving it means a lot and makes me excited for the future.

I would like to thank all the organizations and people that have allowed me to help them promote agriculture and help others learn more about dairy.

 

Name: Sara Harn

Award: KLUSSENDORF SCHOLARSHIP – Scholarships are for students successfully completing their first, second or third years at a 2-year or 4-year college or university and based on activities, experience, interest in showing dairy cattle and future plans.

Home Farm or On-Farm Dairy Experience:

I became involved with the Brown Swiss breed through the Beutel family at Beu Dell Farms in Brodhead, WI. My family resides on Kalos Brown Swiss, a small show heifer farm in Brooklyn, WI. We raise around 15-20 registered heifers each year for both clients and ourselves. My mom, Michele, and I are the main decision makers around the farm. Together, we run the farm and the show string.

What are your future career goals? 
I plan to pursue a career in the Dairy or Agriculture Industry. Though I am interested in pursuing a career in communications or marketing, I am also open to other options in the industry.

What does this award means to you?
Winning this award has made all the hard work over the past few years worth it. As I look at past Klussendorf Scholarship winners, I am humbled to be included among the list and am encouraged to continue to pursue my dreams in the Dairy Industry.

Is there anyone you would like to thank?
I would not be who I am today without a few “key people” in my life. Mom, and dad, thank you for pushing me and never letting me give up on my dreams. Beutel family, thank you for getting me started in the Brown Swiss breed and the dairy industry, I could never say enough thank you’s for everything you’ve done for me. Grandpa, thank you for holding down the fort at home countless times while mom and I are busy. Ken Main, thank you for believing in me and for taking me under your wing. Finally, to Kent Weigel, Chad Wethal, and the entire UW-Madison staff and faculty, thank you for providing an amazing world-class university for dairy science students and thank you for providing opportunities for your students to excel!
