Research Area
Genomic selection in dairy cattle, with methane emissions as my primary focus. Methane is worth selecting against for two reasons: it adds to climate warming, and it marks feed energy the cow never turns into milk. Working with US Holstein cows, I study the genetic architecture of methane and build prediction models that estimate an animal’s breeding value from its genotype, so producers can identify lower-emitting cattle early. My interests extend past this single area, though I also apply quantitative genetics and GWAS to production and health traits, drawing on genome-wide SNP data to weigh several objectives within one breeding goal.
