Dr. Wei Guo is an Associate Professor of Muscle Biology and a faculty member in the Meat Science and Animal Biologics Discovery (MSABD) program within the Department of Animal and Dairy Science.

His research focuses on posttranscriptional regulation of striated muscle (cardiac and skeletal) development, growth, regeneration, metabolism, and disease using both in vitro and in vivo models. Dr. Guo also investigates the effects of maternal environmental factors on fetal and postnatal development (fetal or developmental programming) in large animal models. In addition, his lab explores bioactive molecules and small proteins/peptides (SPs) derived from animal co-products with potential applications in animal agriculture and human health. He has authored more than 70 peer-reviewed research and review articles and contributed four book chapters. His research is currently supported by federal and non-federal funding sources, including the NIH, USDA, and the American Heart Association.

Dr. Guo earned his Ph.D. from China Agricultural University and completed postdoctoral training in muscle biology and nutritional sciences at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Before joining UW–Madison as a tenure-track faculty member, he served on the faculty at the University of Wyoming.
