Hog Breakdown Fundraiser: A Success for Education and Awareness

The Badger Meat Science Club (BMSC) proudly hosted the Hog Breakdown fundraiser on Saturday, March 8th.

During the event, participants had the unique opportunity to purchase half of a pork carcass and take part in an educational session on fabricating it into retail cuts, which they got to take home. This hands-on experience not only provided insights into where pork cuts come from but also highlighted the meat processing journey. Hog Breakdown aimed to raise awareness and deepen appreciation for the agricultural industry, especially at a time when many are increasingly disconnected from their food sources.

The event also benefited club members, who participated in the pork harvest and practiced a breakdown beforehand, enhancing their meat science expertise. Overall, the fundraiser was a success, providing valuable educational experiences and supporting the club’s future events and activities.
