Why UW-Madison? Attending UW Madison has always been a goal of mine. I visited the campus and the city a lot growing up and I was so attached to the idea of pursuing a degree here. I am so lucky to have grown up so close to such a high-quality University that is known for its research as well as agricultural programs. The beautiful campus, the student environment and the people I have gotten to know here have made the past four years such a great experience.
What is your most memorable experience? Working at the UW Vet School in the Large Animal Surgery department has been one of the most impactful experiences I have had. I have been able to work hands-on with animals in a clinical setting and learn more about health care and animal welfare. I am able to apply my knowledge from courses to components of my job and I will be able to carry that with me throughout my career. I’ve gotten to work with so many great people that are excellent at what they do, and see some really interesting cases. What I have learned in this position has been foundational for my career aspirations moving forward and I’m so grateful to have gotten the opportunity to work in the surgery department.
How was your experience studying abroad?
In Spring 2022 I was fortunate enough to study abroad in the Netherlands at Wageningen University and Research. It was an amazing experience learning from one of the highest ranked agricultural universities in the world. While there, I took courses related to animal nutrition and microbiology as well as genetics and genomics. The Netherlands is highly focused on environmental preservation and sustainability, so it was amazing to see the different aspects of animal science in this alternative scope. As an exchange student I was able to network with many researchers and professors that come from many different backgrounds as well as different countries. The classes were challenging but the practical components were fundamental in research areas I am looking to pursue in the future. The community surrounding the campus made it possible to apply industry knowledge of current issues to guide scientific advancements. While there, I met so many amazing people from all over the world and made so many lifelong friends that I hope to see again in the future. Overall this experience was beneficial for my personal and professional development and I am so glad to have had this opportunity. This article was posted in Blog.
